About me

I help UX designers, product managers, and entrepreneurs build better digital products through user research.

Previously, I was founder and CEO of GreenHomeGuide.com, a leading green directory website featuring 15,000+ community-generated Q&As, tips, and local directory listings.

My experience is that user research can bring uncommon clarity and confidence to product decisions in technology businesses.  At GreenHomeGuide for example, we finally started getting traction after two years of ups and downs when we surveyed site visitors and newsletter subscribers.  We re-prioritized features and requests, mothballed (AKA killed) several functions of the site, and ultimately created a better product for homeowners, advertisers, and ourselves.

From the very beginning, we sought to learn about our users — user interviews, prototype testing, analytics.  But in those early days I was so convinced of the GreenHomeGuide concept that I was half in sales mode and half in research mode.  Later, when the site was up and we had paying customers, there was so much going on it was hard to find the time and focus.  Yet, with better user research GreenHomeGuide would have found a solid footing sooner and we’d have built a bigger business.

Before GreenHomeGuide, I held product management and product marketing roles in the enterprise software industry.
